Tracy McCasland Murphy
Tracy McCasland Murphy, 61, passed away after a year-long battle with acute myeloid leukemia on July 20, 2023. Many of her family and friends were by her side. Tracy, the daughter of Charles Lee McCasland and Barbara McGee McCasland was born July 15, 1962 in Dallas,Texas. She and her younger sister, Paige McCasland Graves, grew up in the Dallas area. Tracy graduated from Richardson High School in 1980. She attended North Texas State University in Denton where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Parks and Recreation. After graduation, Tracy worked 8 years at the Garland YMCA as Recreation Department Program Director. She then joined the Dallas Fire Department where she worked for 29 years, first as a firefighter and paramedic at Station 22, and later as a 911 dispatcher.
Tracy was a loving mother, daughter, sibling, aunt and friend. Everyone she met knows her sense of humor, her ability to talk to anyone, and how devoted she was to her family. She enjoyed scuba diving, sailing, traveling, and sitting out by her pool along with jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her children. She loved socializing with friends she met through high school, college, the Oakridge Women’s Club and the fire department. She adored her four legged kids Ollie, Milo, and Hershey and spoiled them with love until their passing.
Tracy was so selfless and caring even throughout her illness as she wanted to help others also struggling with leukemia. She organized two blood drives, along with bringing attention to the “Be The Match” Donor Registry, which matches cancer patients with life-saving bone marrow donors. During the last year Tracy brought friends and family together in many ways, one being the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night fundraiser to raise money for leukemia research. Tracy made it very clear how grateful she was for the dedicated staff at Medical City Dallas that provided excellent treatment during this past year, especially Dr. Vikas Bhushan, Nurse Practitioner Jessica Pelini, Sara Lovejoy, RN and all the oncology/transplant nurses, Tracy’s bone marrow donor, as well as the entire donor network.
Austin and Megan were Tracy’s number one priority. Being a Mom was truly her life’s passion. Her goal was to pass on her strength, knowledge and character to her children and if asked, Austin and Megan would say she succeeded. She supported them through every life decision and always stood by them. She taught them many lessons and helped shape them into who they are today.
Tracy is preceded in death by her parents Charles Lee McCasland and Barbara McGee McCasland, and her infant son, Travis Patrick Murphy. She is survived by her son Austin Lee Murphy, daughter Megan Nicole Murphy Reed and husband Ronnie Reed III, sister Paige Lee McCasland Graves and husband Stephen Kent Graves, nephew Ryan Travis Graves, niece Danielle Taylor Graves, and step-mother Donna Thomas Edwards.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 31, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Spring Creek Church, 2660 Belt Line Road in Garland, Texas, followed by a Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Tracy to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or to “Be The Match”.
