Andrew Lee McVay

Andrew Lee McVay of Garland, Texas went home to be with his Savior on August 11, 2024. Andy was born on January 25, 1954, in Dallas to Troy and Maggie McVay. He was born again at church camp as a young boy and began his walk with the Lord. As he grew, Andy proudly served as an assistant to his dad performing Gospel Magic at various camps and community organizations.

Andy graduated from South Garland High School in 1972 where he met his wife Norma Jean, and they were married shortly thereafter in 1973. Andy was the proud dad of two children Nicole Lee and Adam Lee. In 2023 Andy and Norma celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Andy was a hardworking man. He was an active member of his community and his local church serving in everything from boy scouts to vacation Bible school. He coached little league, worked in the music and sound tech ministries at church and was always involved in school activities with Nickie and Adam. He was a man of many talents. Andy could play several instruments, fix just about anything, and was a wiz at trivia and woodworking. He had a dad joke for every occasion, loved John Wayne movies, and diet Dr. Pepper.

Andy is survived by his loving wife, Norma Jean; his daughter, Nicole Austin and her husband Jason, his son Adam McVay and his wife Amberly. He is also survived by his mother, Maggie McVay; his brother, Raymond McVay and his wife Terri; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Troy McVay.

A celebration of Andy’s life will be held on August 24th at 9:00 AM at Sunnyvale First Baptist Church in the Student Center Chapel. Andy always loved to wear funny t-shirts. If attending, please wear a favorite, church appropriate, funny shirt in honor of Andy’s love of humor and laughter. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Sunnyvale First Baptist Church Legacy of Hope Fund in Andy’s memory.
